Reading
Reading is an important whole school focus. Your child will take part in phonics sessions each morning through our Read, Write, Inc programme. They will also learn reading comprehension skills through our English lessons. Your child will bring home two books each Friday; a Read, Write Inc. book linked to their phonics group and a 'Reading for Pleasure' book that they have chosen independently from our class libraries.
Please ensure you read regularly with your child (minimum 3 times a week) and sign their reading record. Your child should bring their Read, Write Inc. book and reading record in EVERY DAY.
Parents often ask us what books they can buy to support their child's reading at home. Please find the recommended book list here...
Handwriting
A big focus for Year 2 is handwriting, we follow our school handwriting policy. Our letters are formed as follow...

Year 2 in Action
We were so lucky to go to Applecast Farm to their 'Winter Wonderland'. Here are lots of smiles and Christmas fun from Y2G...
Y2G were challenged by Buddy the elf to research, explore joining techniques, design, make and evaluate Christmas decorations!
Science challenge in Y2G! Can you make a house strong enough that the BIG BAD PIG won't blow it over...or use his sledgehammer? Children had to think about the properties of materials and how they would fair test the materials with the huff and puff of the hairdryer!
We were word surgeons in Y2G! We had to form contracted words and use apostrophes to show where we had omitted the letters.
Can you use some of these contracted words in your writing at home?
